Nutmeg yawned right before she began to stirr. She had not seen any flowers or plants in her dream, she wished she had. She cast a glance to her siblings, Raven was acting out the 'Snake' in their new game, 'Fight the Snake'. She grinned at watching them play, glad they were happy, they deserved that. She wondered if she could ever be as happy as them though...

Opal yawned as she woke up. She barely remembered falling asleep, but her dreams had been filled with strange moving shapes and colors that seemed to be cats, but whenever she tried to make out the details, they evaporated again. She stretched and looked around at her kits. They were all playing or sleeping or doing whatever they wished. They looked very happy. All except Nutmeg. She was smiling, but she wasn't joining in on the games or eating. "You okay, Nutmeg?" she asked her, walking over. She glanced around warily for more snakes as she passed Raven and Rock.

Tansy sighed, leaving the fight and rushing up to what she called lookout rock, she loved to watch the stars from it. To the young kit the stars were more complex than anythink else. All of Tansy's siblings except for nutmeg just looked to them aa a pretty decoration but she thought that there was something special. Closing her eyes Tansy thought about it, breathing the moist night air, night had always been her favourite time.

Opal glanced back at Tansy and then yawned again. Tansy always seemed to love to look at the stars, as if they just weren't specks, but something bigger...
Foxheart clawled through the hole in the fence. "I'm telling you, I do smell fresh-kill!" he told his sister, Fernshadow. "It should be-" he broke off and stopped suddenly. A queen and her kits were resting in a small clearing with a few bushes around it. Fernshadow walked into him as he stopped. "What're you-" she stopped talking too, and stared at the four cats.
Opal stared wide-eyed at the strangers, and then swept her tail around the kits she could, and jerked her head to the others.

"Eep!" Tansy exclaimed as she was rushed off her pearch, stumbling as opal pulled her close. "Ow, Mom that hurt!" she squeaked, she had scraped a paw on the rocky ledge she stood on.

"Hush." Opal meowed to Rock and Tansy. She looked back to the strangers. "Who're you?"
Fernshadow peeked around her brother, who was trying to stand in front of her, as if trying to protect her from a few kits. "Hello," she said calmly, "I'm Fernshadow, and this is Foxheart." She poked Foxheart as she said his name, for he was starting to bristle like a hedgehog. He tried to straighten his fur. "Hello," he muttered.

Tansy tried to approach the cats but her mother held her back. "Momy, what do they want?" she asked.

Opal glanced down at her. "I'm not sure." She glared at Foxheart as if she could scare the answer out of him, but it didn't seem to work.
"We were just looking for some shelter and fresh-kill," Fernshadow meowed hurriedly, before Foxheart could even open his mouth all the way. Foxheart glared at her but stayed silent.
Opal shifted nervously. "Fresh-kill?"
The two strangers exchanged a bewildered glance. "Er..ya know...food?" Foxheart explained awkwardly.

Nutmeg left her mother's tail, she could tell these cats brought no harm. She walked up to the she-cat known as Fernshadow and looked up into her eyes. She could see no hate or bloodthirstiness in them, only compassion and pain, pain of being seperated from someone dear. "Fernshadow, right? I think your trying to find something... What is it you two seek?" She tilted her head, eager to learn more about these cats and their lifestyle.

Both Opal and Foxheart gaped at the small kit. Opal tried to find words to tell her daughter to come back, but they didn't seem to come. Fernshadow dropped her gaze to the ground. This kit reminded her of Starsoul. Always saying odd things like that. "We need to go home." Foxheart turned his stunned face to his sister. "Er..right." He looked at the gray tabby. "Why is there a dead snake?" Fernshadow rolled her eyes, and Opal narrowed hers. "You may...have some of my meat, if you want. If that's what fresh-kill is." Foxheart was a bit shocked that she didn't know what fresh-kill was, but he dived into the pile of the butcher's meat. Fernshadow glared at him, and then sat down carefully, still studying the small she-kit.

Raven squiggled a bit, her curiosity getting to her, as usual. She got through her mother's grasp, and stumbled toward the two cats. She sat down next to her sister. "Sorry to, Er, interrupt. But, where did you two come from?" Raven mewed, switching her gaze continuously to Foxheart then Fernshadow.

"Er, It's kind of a big forest with mountains and moorland surrounding it." Foxheart mewoed awkwardly. "It's upriver." Fernshadow nodded. Opal narrowed her eyes. "We've never seen a river around here. Only the sea." Foxheart shuffled his paws. "Oh..Well, it's near the mountains. That way...I think." He pointed with his tail towards the fence in front of them and beyond. "No it's not. It's that way." Fernshadow pointed in the opposite direction.
